R.A. (Bob) Baker, MBA, Managing Director

bobWith 30-years of experience in the broader public sector, Managing Director Bob Baker’s expertise spans organizational improvement and team building. He is an experienced third sector executive, working at national charities as well as in healthcare and in higher education. These include Ryerson University, Canadian Diabetes Association, TVOntario, SMARTRISK Foundation, and Lakeridge Health Foundation.

Bob has extensive hands-on experience in designing and implementing integrated strategies, building brand and reputation, generating revenue streams, and moving decisions forward. He has also provided executive leadership to three mergers of charitable organizations and is an expert advisor on such transactions.

An experienced facilitator and instructor, Bob teaches operations management and board governance at UOIT in addition to delivering workshops at major conferences. He is also an Associate with The Soft Skills Group Inc.

He is a graduate of the MBA program at the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University and has a BA in Communication Studies from the University of Windsor. He also completed the Masters Certificate in Public Sector Management at UOIT as well as the NFP Governance Essentials Program offered by the Institute of Corporate Directors and Rotman School of Management at U of T.

Andrea Kennedy

Andrea KennedyAndrea Kennedy is a Brand Strategist, Educator and Speaker. She is the Founder and Chief Strategist at Spread Your Word Marketing Group, a marketing strategy and services agency based in the Durham Region that offers brand and marketing strategic planning, design and implementation to local businesses and organizations. When not working with her SYWMG clients, Andrea is also an Instructor at the Management Development Centre at UOIT, and a Brand & Marketing Advisor at the Spark Centre

Andrea has a passion for supporting the success of local businesses, not-for-profits and charities. She seeks meaningful engagements that allow her to further her mission of elevating small and startup business communities. Andrea combines her experience as an small business owner, her volunteer leadership experience, and her enterprise industry experience to deliver exceptional and lasting results.

With her family, Andrea chose to put down roots in the Durham Region in 2000, and has committed to building a live/work/play lifestylin in this community. She is Past-President of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, and an active member of the Town of Whitby’s Downtown Whitby Development Steering Committee.

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University in Ottawa, with continuing education at George Brown College (Technical writing, Content Editing), and Durham College (Marketing, Sales & Marketing, Project Management). A lifelong learner, Andrea continually seeks out opportunities to learn, and grow both personally and professionally.

Karen L. Ormerod, MM, CFRE

Karen’s career in the not for profit sector has spanned for over 30 years. Described as a visionary leader and organizational change agent, she earned a Master of Management Degree for National Voluntary Sector Leaders, from McGill University in 2003 and has held senior leadership positions in local, provincial and national charities. In addition, Karen is an instructor in not-for-profit management at UOIT. Working with volunteers and being a volunteer herself has given Karen a unique insight into this world which she will share in this presentation.


Irwin & Associates Inc.

Bill Irwin (MPA Queen’s, PhD Western) is an Assistant Professor at Huron University College in the Department of Economics and Business. He also instructs program and policy evaluation at UWO in the Department of Political Science in the Masters in Public Administration Program.  Dr. Irwin’s research interests centers on issues of policy, leadership, and community engagement. He is interested in exploring models of program and policy evaluation focused on qualitative evaluation, outcome and impact analysis; with principal interest focused on the interplay between institutions and community.

In addition Dr. Irwin develops and delivers professional development workshops in the area of municipal management, for the Association of Municipal Mangers, Clerks, Treasurers of Ontario, and provides consulting services to local municipal governments and public libraries.  He has over 20 years of work experience at a managerial level in the public and community sector, prior to returning to the academic community.
